Fertile Desert - Tharparkar Pakistan

 Fertile Desert - Tharparkar

Mithi being capital of Tharparkar is the trade and financial hub of the district. In recent years business hub is shifted to Islamkot due to 660MW Engro Thar Coal Power Project. A separate container city is also growing near Islamkot which houses both local and foreign works.

To balance carbon foot print in the area due to coal power plant "Million Tree Program" has been initiated by SECMC and Thar Foundation. Thar Deep ( TRDP ) is also working on many rural development programmes in the area. Relatively small but more constructive NGO`s such as Cfwelfare which aim`s to improve lives of children & families by providing health care, education, economical support, technical training thru socioeconomic advancement are also working in the area.

To reach Tharparkar from Karachi one can go through Hyderabad (Rout 1) or by Thatta (Rout 2).  I personally love going though Thatta, as this rout offers more nature site seeing. Stopovers on both the routs are marked in below mentioned Google map links.

Naukot Fort:
Naukot Fort known as Gateway of Tharparkar was built by Mir Karam Ali Khan Talpur in 1814 to safeguard Mirpurkhas from Rajput`s. The fort is unique in the area as bricks were only used for its construction and did not use materials such as wood and iron
